Those Who Can’t…

Those who can’t teach. Or those who don’t, preach.  Is this always true?

When I read hands I start to see patterns.  Not in the John-Nash “Beautiful Mind” sort of way, but in a systematic way.  For instance, I’ve conducted two dozen readings since August 4th.  Eighteen of the twenty-four pairs of hands had the gift marking of the “healer.”

Gift markings are great little guideposts in our hands.  They show up to remind us that the gift is central to living our best life.  However, the gift marking appears when we’re NOT using the gift as a central part of our life.   When we’re not using our gifts, we start to suffer the consequences.  I know that sounds dire, and while it’s not life threatening, it is, at the very least a yucky feeling and at the worst it can stop us in our tracks and keep us from moving forward in any and all areas that make our hearts sing.  The marker is there as if to say, “Hey, girlfriend, you’re forgetting about this amazing gift you have – so you’re feeling ever so antsy, edgy, or numb.  Why not take a step into using the gift and see if that pain and yuckiness doesn’t disappear?!”

The gift marking of the Healer (also known as the Medical Stigmata) appears as 4 or more vertical lines below the pinky, on what is known as the Mount of Mercury.  They appear between the base of the pinky and the heart line.  Looking at the number of lines can give you an indication of how you should be using your gift in the world.  Many people with a life purpose that includes teaching, communication, spiritual teaching or healing of any sort have this gift marker.   My personal belief is that all humans are here to share love and healing throughout the planet, so in essence, we’re all healers in some way shape or form.

But we don’t all have the gift marker.  Remember, the gift marker shows up because we have to use the gift in our life or suffer the consequences.  The gift of the healer is that of knowing thyself so you can counsel and help transform others.  It’s the ability to hone your psychological insight and holistic awareness in a way that benefits others, in essence it’s a calling to help others achieve their highest potential.

Great, so what’s the problem?  Well, the penalties kick in when you’re not doing your healing work, or you’re not stepping into the next bigger phase of doing your healing work.  The penalties range from intimacy breakdowns and a deep sense of sadness, loneliness and isolation to a feeling of not being “heard” or understood – even from those who are usually your closest confidantes.  When you’re in the penalty phase you find clever ways to build walls around your sensitive center – to protect yourself from getting hurt.  What you’re also doing is preventing anyone from seeing in and getting to learn from you and your story.  It’s your authentic and compelling story that draws people to you.  Finding ways to put it out there and accepting the vulnerability that comes with this process is crucial to advancing as a healer.  You’ve got to be willing to dig deep and come out the other side of your own demons in order to be able to blossom into your healing gifts.

So, as I’ve been reading hands and talking to my clients about what this gift marker means and how the penalty phase can knock the wind out of their sails I’ve realized that sometimes the pattern is there for the teacher to take note of as well.

You see, I’ve got those healer gift markings, and the penalty. The penalty is also my life lesson.  From experience I know how your gut instinct is to shut down and live a little smaller.  To keep everything close to the chest so that you don’t feel vulnerable and exposed.  The result is a deeper sense of isolation and loneliness.  It actually feels much worse than any real exposure ever could.

So, as the hand analysis guide, I’m realizing that it’s important to not only teach (and preach) what the hands tell us, but to heed my own advice.  So all you healers out there – know that I’m walking along the road with you.  I’m learning to speak my truth and be clear in my communications with my loved ones and my inner dialgoe.  As I do that, I find my ability to work with others and help them get clear on their soul’s purpose and vision is also strengthened.

I’m heeding the advice of the hands and getting to know myself.

  1. Very interesting. I don’t have those markings and I do teach. No matter what role I take in an organization I wind up being the one who helps everyone perform better. I have tried in the past to resist my natural urge to help, either because I was new to a group or because I just wanted to focus on my own work. Whatever the reason, shutting down my gift eventually ended up causing me pain and affected my own growth. In the end I realize that I will get more than I give so it is all worth it.

    Great post!

  2. Thanks for stopping by! You are a teacher but not having to live with the penalty of the gift marking — see that’s exactly how it works. We all have gifts at the core of our purpose, and when we’re using them, it feels good, fluid and joyful. Just as you describe Melissa!

  4. Sumoflower — I’d really have to see the lines and exactly where they are to make a call on what they are and what (if anything) they mean. They could be just run of the mill lines (sometimes a line is just a line) or they could be part of a Mercury Fan, or perhaps even Gifted Healer markings – although I’ve never seen 11 on one hand). Or they could simply be energy moving through the area either blocking or speeding the area.
